SCOPE AND DURATION
OF CONSULTING ENGAGEMENTS

Industry research Due-diligence Achieving win-win outsourcing relationships Use of economic models

The scope and duration of our consulting engagements is determined together with our clients and depend upon a number of factors. These factors include the degree of our involvement in assessing outsourcing feasibility and desirability, the complexity of assemblies to be outsourced, the number of facilities currently producing these assemblies and the number and locations of contract manufacturers to be considered. We will typically work full-time on the engagement until completed, integrating into the organization of an outsourcing project team. Some clients may prefer that we work mostly independently, or in anonymity to protect their identity.

Key issues to be addressed in most engagements include:

  • What to outsource, what to perform internally?
  • Which contract manufacturer(s) to use and which site?
  • What price to pay now and on what basis?
  • What pricing method to use for new products in the future?
  • What services and performance standards to expect?
  • How to staff internally for managing the contract manufacture?
  • How to minimize the long-term financial risk?

The CMC letter of engagement will contain details of scope, duration and project plan.
